Bounce Back 4 Kids (BB4K)
Bounce Back 4 Kids
Bounce Back 4 Kids (BB4K) supports families affected by domestic abuse, once the perpetrator of the abuse has left the family home. It is a therapeutic support service to assist families in healing from trauma. To be able to receive a therapeutic intervention families must be safe physically and emotionally ready to access support.
The key aims of the service are:
- To understand the cycle of domestic abuse
- To understand and heal from trauma
- Provide families with the tools to enable them to keep safe
- To validate and empower children and their parent / main carer
- To give parents the opportunity to see domestic abuse through the eyes of their child
- To strengthen positive and healthy attachments between children and their parent / main carer
- To raise children’s self-esteem whilst giving them an opportunity to explore and express their feelings through fun, child-focussed activities in a safe therapeutic way
- To improve children’s school attendance, learning and development
BB4K Services – menu of support
It is our intention to develop a service that is responsive to the needs of the families. This will result in all families receiving the most appropriate support available in a timely manner. This will mean there is no ‘typical’ service a family will receive but could include: individual support for parent and / or child to address immediate issues and concerns (intensive support); followed by group intervention((s) medium level support) and completed with access to webinars / newsletter / support provided through private Facebook group (low level support).
Dependant on need and provision families may be offered:
- Under 5’s Bounce Back 4 Kids group – support for children aged 3-5 years and their non-abusing parent / carer
- Bounce Back 4 Kids groupwork – support for Primary School aged children and their non-abusing parent / carer
- individual support – for parent and / or child. This may be offered pre attendance at group if assessed as a need. Our cohort focus will remain as Primary school aged children but individual support may be offered to older siblings (if assessed as a need) or younger (through play therapy or Under 5’s group provision)
- Play therapist from qualified volunteers or a MA Play Therapy student
- Other groupwork according to need e.g. BOOST Up, parenting support, Healing Trauma
- Other interventions for young people provided through student placements e.g. art and drama therapy
- Zoom workshops alongside 1-2-1 support and group support and for those on waiting list / post group attendance
- Access to quarterly wellbeing newsletters
- Invite to join private Facebook group
- Domestic abuse training for practitioners if identified as a need
