Home-Start Oxford is a voluntary organisation providing free, confidential support for families with at least one child under the age of 5 in Oxford, and the centre and west of the county.

We help ordinary people who are going through extraordinary times.

Being a parent has never been easy. Regardless of social standing, gender or culture, it can be lonely, frustrating, heart-breaking and over-whelming. Everyone needs help sometimes, and with our team of experienced volunteers and staff we provide non-judgmental, compassionate support for parents when they need us most.

There is no such thing as a typical ‘Home-Start family’ and the support we offer is as individual as the families themselves.

Notes

We provide help to families in the form of groups, and one to one support.

Groups

We offer a range of specific support groups and a programme of general ‘stay & play’ sessions. Our groups are a great place to pick up advice and tips and you will often find lots of other families facing the same issues as you.

One to one Support

Our support volunteers:

  • are trained, experienced and carefully matched with your family.
  • have parenting experience themselves and understand lots of the difficulties families can face.
  • will provide you with 2-3 hours of support per week.
  • will work alongside you to help you overcome challenges you are facing.
  • will work with you to build on your strengths and give you support that you tell us that you need.
