We are looking for an enthusiastic and flexible Early Years Supervisor with a recognised Level 2 or Level 3 qualification to work initially for 12.5 hours a week in after-school care (3.30 pm—6.00 pm)  within the Early Years team and under the direction of the Head of Nursery.  The Early Years team share responsibility for the Early Years pupils across 50 weeks of the year, following an educational curriculum during school term time (usually 35 weeks a year) and offering a Holiday Club for up to 15 weeks of the year.  There may be opportunity for additional term-time hours later in the year.

The aims for the Early Years are; 

  • to develop in pupils a sense of wonder and a love of learning
  • to provide a stimulating, happy environment in which pupils will thrive
  • to instil in pupils a sense of self-worth, confidence and independence
  • to encourage pupils to co-operate with one another and respect one another
  • to develop in pupils a sense of responsibility towards their environment

Pupils arrive from 7.30 am onwards, Reception Class, Year 1 and Year 2 going to their classes at 8.30 am.  From 8.45 am until 3.30 pm, the Nursery School pupils have a day of activities separate from the older pupils. From 3.45 pm those pupils in Nursery School remaining for the extended day will be joined by the Key Stage 1 pupils staying for after-school care, the after-school care programme continuing until 6.00 pm.  

The Foundation Stage curriculum is modelled on the QCA Curriculum Guidance with its seven areas of learning. 

During school holidays a Holiday Club is provided for our Early Years children.  The focus for the programme of holiday activities is on play and the endless opportunities for exploration and adventure offered by the school’s beautiful 12-acre woodland setting.

Responsibilities of the post  include: 

  • assisting the Head of Nursery with long-term planning
  • assisting with the planning and implementation of pupils’ daily programmes
  • liaising with the Head of Nursery and Head of Pre-Prep
  • with the Head of Nursery, planning weekly themes
  • monitoring and evaluating the curriculum, with particular reference to the criteria of the Oxfordshire Early Years Programme, and being responsible for a group of pupils in relation to the Key Person System
  • assisting with planning and implementing the Early Years before-school and after-school care programme
  • keeping written observations and assessments as needed
  • liaising with colleagues and pupils' parents and their representatives
  • attending staff meetings
  • observing the school’s Health and Safety Policy and the school’s Safeguarding Policy
  • assisting with the writing of reports

Hours of Work

The hours of work required are 12.5 hours per week during term time only (usually 35 weeks) and holiday club hours to be agreed during a maximum of 15 additional weeks each year.

Pay and benefits

The hourly rate of pay will be based on the successful candidate’s qualifications.

Early Years staff are invited to join the School’s Group Personal Pension Scheme.

At specified times, staff may use the school’s Fitness Suite, and during Trinity Term staff may use the swimming pool at the advertised times.  There is car parking on site, and the School is easily accessible by bus.

Guidance and criteria on the filtering of these cautions and convictions can be found on the Disclosure and Barring Service  website.  Candidates must not have been disqualified from working with children, and must not be named on the Children’s Barred List or be subject to any sanctions imposed by a regulatory body.  Details of any convictions, cautions or bind-overs subject to disclosure must be passed to the Headmistress before interview in a sealed envelope marked ‘confidential’.  An overseas criminal record check may also be required.
