Early Years SEN Team

What’s important to us (our values):

  • To provide high quality support to families, Early Years settings and childminders to enable young children with SEN to develop and achieve all they can.
  • To work in a holistic way with each child and family through a coordinated multi-agency approach.
  • To value the expertise of parents as equal partners and always put them at the centre of our work.

What we do:

We work with children under 5 years, either known to or waiting to be seen by a Community Paediatrician, who need specialist support with their development and learning by giving support and advice to the child’s parents, carers and family. We work to the principles of Early Support in all we do, coordinating our support with others who may be involved with the child and family such as Early Years practitioners, Health Visitors, Speech Therapists, Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists, and Children’s Centres.

We see children with a wide range of disabilities or learning difficulties.  They may include children with:

  • significant language delay
  • communication and social interaction difficulties
  • complex needs

Children may have a diagnosis such as Down Syndrome or autism, but many do not.

Support and advice is also given to early years settings in relation to individual children and about inclusive practice.

Who we offer this service to and how and when we do it:

Support for each child is individually planned with parents, using their expertise and our specialist knowledge of early childhood development and special educational needs.  Additional information can be found under 'Useful downloads'.
