Equilore - Equine Therapy and Learning
Equilore is a registered charity (Reg. Charity No.: 1190998) that works with horses to provide mental health support for children and adults aged 7 and up.
Working with horses provides an alternative way to help process and make sense of what we are going through. No previous experience with horses necessary and there is no riding involved.
Why horses? Horses are highly social animals that use non-verbal communication to establish a bond. They don't judge people on the way they look or behave. These characteristics make them ideal to facilitate interventions for people who may struggle with low self esteem, anxiety, attachment difficulties, trauma, ASD and attention difficulties.
The sessions are run by a highly trained and experienced practitioner who is a chartered Psychologist with a MSc in Neuropsychology, PhD in Clinical Neuroscience and a Diploma in Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy.
We work with the horses from the ground (i.e. no riding) on principles of mindfulness and acceptance, but will also run skills-based sessions addressing assertivess, focus, taking responsibility, empathy, calmness (yes calmness is a skill!), planning, communication and engagement. We provide a safe and profesional service where people can grow and enhance their self-awareness, confidence, emotional wellbeing and acquire new skills.

- Notes
Equilore was founded in 2017 with the vision to support people with their mental health who have got stuck in the traditional system of support.
Equilore became a registered charity in 2020 (registration 1190998) offering Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP) and we have grown in our service provision ever since.
In Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP) we work with our horses to gain insight in how we perceive, behave and interact with the world around us. Horses don’t judge. They care about your presence, your intentions and your ability to be and connect with them.
At Equilore, we provide a professional service where people can grow and enhance their self-awareness, confidence, emotional well being and acquire new skills. Equine therapy is great for improving communication skills, social skills, assertiveness, creative thinking, problem solving, relationship building and attitude changes. This is because the horse is a big and imposing animal who responds mainly through non-verbal communication, like body language.
Please contact me (Loes Koorenhof) for more information or for an informal chat about what services may be most suitable for you. Along with my horses I am here to help you improve your understanding of your personal journey and life experiences.
Equilore is based just on the border of Oxforshire and Northamptonshire in Croughton.

- Other notes
In Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP) we work with our horses to gain insight in how we perceive, behave and interact with the world around us. This insight is highly valuable for our personal development and personal growth, and can also have therapeutic value when addressing psychological resilience.
Together with the horses your therapists will help you to address difficulties that you may be facing. This can include mental health issues such as low mood or anxiety, trauma, relationship problems or bullying. Horses can also help in teaching life skills such as anger management, task oriented learning and developing social skills.
We offer Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP) in groups or individually, to people who are experiencing mental health problems. Together with the therapist, treatment goals are identified and during a series of sessions (usually between 6-8) you work together with the therapist and the horses towards coping strategies for the experienced difficulties.
