Equilore is a registered charity (Reg. Charity No.: 1190998) that works with horses to provide mental health support for children and adults aged 7 and up.
Working with horses provides an alternative way to help process and make sense of what we are going through. No previous experience with horses necessary and there is no riding involved.
Why horses? Horses are highly social animals that use non-verbal communication to establish a bond. They don't judge people on the way they look or behave. These characteristics make them ideal to facilitate interventions for people who may struggle with low self esteem, anxiety, attachment difficulties, trauma, ASD and attention difficulties.
The sessions are run by a highly trained and experienced practitioner who is a chartered Psychologist with a MSc in Neuropsychology, PhD in Clinical Neuroscience and a Diploma in Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy.
We work with the horses from the ground (i.e. no riding) on principles of mindfulness and acceptance, but will also run skills-based sessions addressing assertivess, focus, taking responsibility, empathy, calmness (yes calmness is a skill!), planning, communication and engagement. We provide a safe and profesional service where people can grow and enhance their self-awareness, confidence, emotional wellbeing and acquire new skills.
