Four million people in the UK are living in food poverty, and at the same time almost one third of all food is thrown away. Community fridges accept surplus food from local businesses or members of the public and make it freely available to all members of the community.
A successful Community Fridge will cut food waste, build stronger bonds within the community and provide people with nutritious, perishable food items.
Abingdon Community fridge is fighting food waste and food poverty by redistributing surplus food donated by food businesses and local people to all members of the community. Anyone can collect food from the fridge. The fridge is open 5-6 pm on Mondays and 10.30 - 11.30 am on Wednesdays, and Saturdays.
