Mr Andrew Stilborn - Stilly Childminding

I am Stilly (a nickname I have had since school), a qualified and registered childminder with Ofsted (Registration number EY385881) and a member of PACEY (Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years) with whom I am fully insured.

My wife Katy and I have two children, Daisy (born May 2004) and Harry (born Feb 2006).  We live in a three-floored terrace house in a quiet cul-de-sac in Iffley.  The house has a large conservatory playroom and a spacious secure garden.  There are stair gates available through out.  Neither my wife or I smoke.  My daughter has a pet hamster which occasionally makes a guest appearance.

Until Daisy was born I worked as a senior care manager for the NHS in Sheffield. When Daisy was 4 months old Katy received promotion, and subsequently we all moved to Oxford and I took over as a full-time daddy.

I love spending time with my family and try to always provide a loving and happy home environment. We all do a lot of playing, singing, reading and arty things together. Daisy and Harry are both now full-time at School, which they love. I currently do pickups from Larkrise School. We also regularly enjoy the library, parks at Rose Hill and Florence Park, Iffley Meadow and Iffley Lock’s ducks, Iffley Woods, and numerous local parks. I have two allotments, one walled within the grounds of Iffley church, and another on Lentel Road - and I regularly take the children watering, planting and picking.  Activities allow children in my care to mix with other children and to further their skills and knowledge.

I hold a full clean driving licence and I have Public Liability Insurance insured through PACEY(Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years) .

Equipment

Facilities that the children can enjoy include a large safe and secure garden for outdoor play with many activities. We have numerous indoor toys which include a doll’s house, castle, wigwam, building blocks, marble runs, dressing up box, train set, kitchen equipment, musical instruments, and dozens of jigsaws and games. Since Katy works in the book selling business we have many story and activity books, and CD music and story books, and we spent a lot of time reading. I am especially interested in art and creativity, and therefore there is always a lot of messy play going on such as drawing, painting, and cookery. For the younger ones we have a nappy changing station and cot situated in a quiet room with black-out blinds.

I manage behaviour by praising and giving attention to children and focus upon raising confidence. I treat all children in my care equally whilst respecting their individual needs and abilities. I always aim to teach children to respect other people and belongings. I use sticker charts in order to reward good behaviour and I am consistent with teaching clear boundaries and explaining my reasons why. I teach children about healthy eating with regular mealtimes. Children have as much time to eat as they need and all sit down at the table together. I aim to provide all children with their 5 a day, including organic products, and I also allow occasional treats.
