Welcome to the Candleford wado-Ryu Sport Karate Club.
People join martial arts clubs for many different reasons. A person may want to get fitter, learn some self defence techniques, improve co-ordination and flexibility, build confidence or just join a club and make friends. Whatever the reason, at Candleford Wado-Ryu Sport Karate Club you will find a warm welcome.
Our training has six aspects to it,
1. line work (where we practice techniques in line formation, as a group).
2. Kata, (where we learn and practice the forms, a series of set moves).
3. Kihons, (where we learn basic attack and defence moves, working with a partner).
4. Sparring, (where we learn fighting techniques).
5. Self Defence, (where we learn practical and effective defence techniques).
6. Yoga based stretching, (improves flexibility and avoids pulled muscles).
During our training sessions we employ extensive use of hook & jab pads and kick bags, these help to perfect the technique, which can be practiced safely at full power. If you are a beginner, help is always available from the instructors and the senior grades.
Remember we were all beginners once. Sometimes the biggest challenge is just to walk through the door for the first lesson. The club is non-political and non-macho, everyone learns at their own pace, and we all help each other.
We accept Children from 12yrs old & parents are welcome to stay. You do not need any special clothing, just make sure it is comfortable, ie track bottoms and T shirt, you need to be able to move freely. Training is always done in bare feet. Training sessions are 1hr long and cost £8, payable on entry. Gradings are taken at the discretion of the instructors and cost £25 per grading. Senior grades training sessions are one and a half hour long.
We run a six week induction for beginners to ensure the style of Wado Ryu Sport Karate suits them, after six weeks we invite you to join the club.
