Helen & Douglas House provides specialist hospice care for babies, children and young people with life-shortening conditions (0-18 years).  The charity also provides support to the wider family through a person's illness and in bereavement.

Helen & Douglas House works in close partnership with other health and care professionals (in hospital and community settings) to provide age-appropriate palliative care that is tailored to individual needs. This includes medically-supported respite, symptom management, supportive and end-of-life care.

Medically-supported respite at the hospice seeks to enable a quality of life for individuals in  line with their capabilities and desires.  Highly specialist care is provided for complex and developing conditions, including at end of life.

In-patient care is provided at the hospice located in east Oxford.  Patients and families can also be supported in their own home and hospital settings.

Details

No charge is made directly to users of the charity's services.  However, the charity expects a funding contribution from the NHS &/or Local Authority for care provided.  This may be in the form of money alloacted to a Personal Budget, or may be part of a wider contract or grant agreement.  Required care services cannot be sustained on charitable donation alone; fair and sustainable funding contributions are also needed from the state (through NHS/Local Authority contributions).  If you are considering a Personal Budget for your child's care, please ensure that due provision is made for services provided by Helen &  Douglas House.
