Messy Mondays! at the Maple Tree

This session focuses on children’s senses of touch, smell, taste, sight and hearing, as well as their movement and balance. It helps children express their thoughts and feelings in ways other than spoken language; make connections and begin to understand the world around them.

  • To provide play opportunities that develop each child’s sense of touch, sight, taste, hearing and smell and through these build the neural connections and pathways that supports brain development and underpins learning
  • To help carers understand the importance of using all of a child’s senses to express their thoughts and ideas
  • To develop and strengthen children’s gross and fine motor skills to help them crawl, jump, climb, balance, hop, skip, roll, use different tools such as cutters, brushes, pencils, scissors, garden implements and manipulate materials such as playdough and clay
