Children and young people who have mental health needs will receive timely and evidence based interventions in a caring, compassionate and non-judgemental environment. We value the role of the family in the recovery process and where possible family support is an integral part of our work.

Standard referrals

Referrals can be accepted from any professional e.g. GP, School, School Health Nurse, SENDCo, Social Worker, Psychologist, etc. Our online referral from can be found at https://www.oxfordhealth.nhs.uk/camhs/support/referral/ 

Please note that the online self-referral service is not currently available in Oxfordshire or Swindon. If you would like to talk to CAMHS directly then please ring 01865 902515 (Oxfordshire)

Emergency and urgent referrals

Please do not use our email or web forms for urgent referrals – please call us on 01865 902 515 and we can direct your call to the most appropriate team to consider an urgent assessment. This service is available Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm. Outside of these hours please call your out of hours GP or 111. In an emergency please call 999.

Within CAMHS, we have various teams – these include:

Getting Help:

What we do:

  • Routine mental health assessments, including risk assessment for Children and Young People (0-18) where there is an indication of a mental illness requiring early intervention or first line treatment;
  • Evidence based interventions, which are time limited, with individuals or families, based on needs and wishes.
  • Community support and working, based on the young persons needs and wishes.
  • Group work for parents of children with anxiety disorders.

 

Getting More Help:

What we do:

  • Routine and urgent specialist mental health assessments, including risk assessment for Children and Young People (0-18) where there is an indication of a moderate to severe mental illness;
  • Evidence based interventions, either individually or within a group setting to Children and Young People with a diagnosed mental health illness;
  • Supportive interventions to parents/carers either individually, or on a group work basis where the Child or Young Person has a mental health diagnosis.
  • Psychiatry input as clinically indicated.

The Getting More Help Team offers a service to children from 0-18 inclusive where there is an indication of serious mental health including:

  • Psychoses / Bipolar disorder
  • Mood Disorders
  • Anxiety Disorders
  • Emerging personality Difficulties
  • Conduct disorders where mental health issues are also indicated
  • ADHD
  • ASD where mental health issues are also indicated

 

Specialist Teams such as Neuropsychiatry, Eating Disorder Team, Outreach and Crisis Team and Forensic CAMHS. These teams are referred onto usually by the Getting Help/Getting More Help Teams or the SPA team. If you are unsure which service you need, please speak to the SPA team.

 

Who we offer this service to:

All children and young people 0 – 18 inclusive from the Woodstock, Bicester, Banbury, Kidlington and Witney and surrounding rural areas, also including parts of Oxford City. Our catchment area is set by GP practices.

Where appropriate we will facilitate a supportive transition to adult services when the young person reaches 18. This transition process will start at 17.5 years old.

How and when we do it:

Our core hours are Monday to Friday 9-5 however there is an out of hours County wide ‘Crisis Team’ who will accept referrals from GPs/111 service outside of core hours.

We offer both clinic and community based appointments (schools/GP’s/home).
