Holiday Activities and Food Programme (HAF): Information for Families
The Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme provides eligible children and young people with free holiday activities and food in the long school holidays.
Oxfordshire County Council has been awarded funding from the Department for Education to deliver a Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) Programme in 2023, as part of a national scheme.
This scheme is available for the long school holidays; the spring (otherwise known as Easter), the winter (otherwise known as Christmas) and the summer school holidays. It is not available in the half term holidays as per Department for Education instruction.
We will be asking schools to distribute the code to eligible families.
Who can take part
The programme will offer free holiday activities to school-aged children, who are in Reception- Year 11, and who are in receipt of benefits-related free school meals. The next round of holiday activities will take place in the 2023 Winter holidays in December. Schools will let families know when booking opens, closer to the time.
What is available
Children and young people attending sessions will be able to enjoy quality holiday activities and a healthy meal at each session they attend. The sessions are available in the long Winter, Spring and Summer holidays, but HAF does not run in half term holidays.
Eligible children and young people are entitled to:
- at least four hours each day
- four days over the spring and winter holidays and sixteen days over the summer holidays
- a nutritious meal each day they attend the camp
You can choose and book free HAF activity sessions from a selection that will be on offer. You will be asked to input a code when booking. Your school should distribute the code, but you can contact our team if you have a query.
You can book individual days based on your circumstance- it is not necessary to attend all sessions for one activity/camp.
Closer to the holidays you will be able to take a look at the providers running activities and book a HAF activity session.

Is HAF related to the School Food Voucher Scheme?
The Holiday Free School Meal Voucher scheme run by Oxfordshire County Council is in no way affiliated with HAF.
If you are part of the voucher scheme, you may still be eligible to participate in all aspects of HAF as long as your child is eligible for benefits-related free school meals. Your school will be able to help with queries about school food vouchers.
